Extra payouts needed 'to maintain service'

POLICE Scotland is spending up to £100,000 A DAY on overtime as it copes with asylum hotel protests and the country's gang war.

The force forked out £3million in overtime in September saying it was vital to tackle organised crime and “unprecedented” levels of protests and events.

It said cops are being called in on days off as there is no other way to meet the extra workload.

Since March, Police Scotland has been investigating a series of fire bombings and other attacks in Edinburgh and Glasgow linked to the long feud between the Lyons and Daniel crime families.

It has resulted in 62 arrests.
