SITTING on the bench wasn't what Arne Engels had in mind when he joined Celtic.

And you can bet it wasn't why Parkhead chiefs agreed to splash out a record fee for him.

So it's no wonder questions were raised about why an £11million signing had been reduced to a bit-part player at the start of this season.

The playmaker had chipped in with 23 goal contributions in his debut campaign and was expected to take his game to another level.

Instead, he found himself knocking on Brendan Rodgers' door, asking why he'd suddenly fallen out of favour.

Engels revealed: "It's always frustrating to be on the bench.

"If you don't really get a big chance to be back in the team and show what you can contribute then it's frustrating.
