Writer Andy Bollen on what really happened at the band's iconic gig in Glasgow and how they played for a case of out of date Tennent's lager
MYTH has it that Oasis threatened to storm the stage when they were not booked for their iconic breakout Scots gig.
Unknown rockers Liam and Noel had turned up at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow on Monday, May 31,1993.
But the Manchester lads were not down to play and their fans were none too happy.
Folklore says that nervous organisers got them a slot and, after a storming performance, they were signed up by music boss Alan McGee that night and the rest is musical history.
Well, not quite, according to Scots author Andy Bollen, who has written a book Definitely Maybe, dispelling many of the myths about the rock and roll bad boys.
He reveals some quirky titbits such as how they played the show for a case of out-of-date Tennent's lager - and revealed claims Oasis threatened to smash up King Tut's were wide of the mark.
Andy who watched their legendary gig - said: "Just rumours, I'm afraid, brilliantly dreamt up by Creation's PR, which fitted the band's image. The band Boyfriend had invited Sister Lovers who were their mates from Manchester. They in turn had invited Oasis up too.
"The tension was caused by the band and their minibus of mates hanging around King Tut's frustrated at not being down to play,
"Boyfriend and Sister Lovers forgot to tell the venue about Oasis and there was no budget to cover it.
