£3bn NHS boost failing to pay off

THE NHS in Scotland is struggling to meet targets despite a large £3billion real-terms increase in spending.

That is the damning conclusion of public finance watchdog Audit Scotland in a report on our failing health service.

But, more importantly, it is also the experience of thousands of Scots stuck on waiting lists for operations or forced to endure hours trying to get treatment in accident and emergency wards.

That is why Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar is right to highlight, as he did at Holyrood yesterday, that our health service needs life support.
