It didn't work out Thelwell for Gers after banking on recruitment 'guru'

KEVIN THELWELL spent just 174 days in his Ibrox post but that was long enough for the now axed sporting director to burn through £40million. Thelwell, along with sacked CEO Patrick Stewart, paid the price for the club's disastrous summer rebuild which saw 12 players signed. Here Record Sport's ANDY NEWPORT rates and slates Gers' dozy dozen...

MAX AARONS (BOURNEMOUTH, LOAN) - MISS

With almost 100 Premier League games under his belt, the right-back was supposed to offer competition for James Tavernier and perhaps be his long-term replacement.

Instead, Aarons has toiled badly in Glasgow having admitted to being taken aback by the unforgiving pressure levels.

His crazy sending off against Brugge after just eight minutes opened the doors for the Belgians to fire a record-equalling six goals past Jack Butland on a night of shame. The Englishman has started two games since.

JOE ROTHWELL (BOURNEMOUTH, FREE TRANSFER) - MISS

The midfield man was a key performer for Leeds last year as they clinched Premier League promotion but he's been a shadow of that player at Ibrox.

He arrived with a reputation of being a powerful ball carrier but so far the fans have seen a player whose turning circle would struggle to beat an oil tanker.

Boss Danny Rohl doesn't seem too impressed either. He started the former Blackburn battler in his first game away to Brann but Rothwell hasn't been seen since.

EMMANUEL FERNANDEZ (PETERBOROUGH, £2.5M) - MISS

The big defender made use of his giant 6ft 4ins frame to nod home the weekend opener against Livi.
