MINISTERS have been accused of "causing chaos" for islands after it was revealed more than 10,000 ferry trips have been cancelled due to technical failures.

Opposition parties warned island communities were left struggling with the “depressing reality” of “losing business, missing events and hospital appointments” over the saga.

Official figures revealed through a Freedom of Information request found 10,809 sailings were cancelled due to faults with ferries from January 2023 to April this year.

Ferries were cancelled, classed as having “performed below schedule”, on 548 days out of 851.
