VICTIM STABBED TO DEATH IN 'CRUEL AND UNNECESSARY' ACT
A WOMAN has been found guilty of murdering her partner in a “drunken temper”.
Joanna Katarzyna Wronska, 52, of Pentre Gwyn, stabbed Marcin Koziol to death in a “cruel and unnecessary” act at their home in Pentre Gwyn before washing the knife in the kitchen sink.
She denied the killing in October 2023, insisting that her 40-year-old victim had previously self-harmed and attempted suicide. But after a nine-day trial, a jury of six men and six women at Mold Crown Court yesterday returned a unanimous verdict of guilty.
Wronska, dressed in dark trousers and a light grey jumper, appeared to sob before and after the foreman read out the verdict. She then looked to the ceiling in Courtroom No. 1 and rubbed her face. The judge His Honour Rhys Rowlands told Wronska, who had the benefit of two Polish interpreters during her trial, said the killing had been “cruel and entirely unnecessary”. He added: “I have no doubt that drink is at the root of your problems.”
He said he would not be sentencing the defendant yesterday. He adjourned the case for a sentencing hearing on May 19. He said there would be a life sentence and the prosecution and defence should prepare submissions over the minimum term.
There would also be victim statements including from Mr Koziol's wife. He praised her and the public in the gallery for their “forebearance”. Investigators were also praised for their work.
