Williamson on pressure of Premier League dream
Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson has opened up about the pressure of chasing the Hollywood-owned club's Premier League dream.
The former Inter Milan executive was appointed to the top job at the Racecourse Ground in the summer of 2024, shortly after the Red Dragons were promoted from League Two.
Phil Parkinson's side have since continued their meteoric rise after securing their third consecutive promotion from League One to the Championship in April this year.
Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have no intention of stopping there after highlighting their long-term ambition of taking the club into the top flight.
After almost 18 months in the role, Williamson has now discussed the challenges that the North Wales outfit’s rapid growth has created as he races to address a lack of infrastructure and staff to deliver their aims.
With the club desperately trying to harness the benefits of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, he admitted existing employees were stressed out when he first arrived.
Speaking on That Wrexham Podcast, hosted by former players Ben Foster and Ben Tozer, Williamson also confessed he has experienced many sleepless nights due to the strain of his job.
