Star Of Mehmas to win the Scurry Stakes at Sandown

STAR Of Mehmas can secure victory in the BetMGM Scurry Stakes (2.40pm) at Sandown this afternoon.

Star Of Mehmas to win the Scurry Stakes at Sandown

Ahead of five days of spectacular Flat action at Royal Ascot next week it is all about speed in the main races at Sandown, York and Chester. And Richard Hughes' three-year-old filly Star Of Mehmas can win the Listed five-furlong feature at the Esher track.

The daughter of Mehmas has some decent form and won three times as a juvenile, scoring in two Novice Stakes on the all-weather at Lingfield and Wolverhampton before an excellent win when stepped up to Listed level in the British EBF Stalllions Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr in September on her final start of the season.

She ran on well to win that day with one of her Sandown rivals, Simon and Ed Crisford's Coto De Caza back in third. Coto De Caza, who had won at Glorious Goodwood before that, franked that form when winning a Group Three on his final start at Newmarket in October.

Coto De Caza hasn't run since whereas Star Of Mehmas was third, beaten less than a length by Lady With The Lamp in a Listed six-furlong contest at Chelmsford City at the start of last month, before being just touched off by Tropical Storm dropped back down to the minimum distance at York two weeks later.

With those runs under her belt, Star Of Mehmas can return to winning ways chiefly at the expense of her old rival Coto De Caza and Irish raider Town And Country, from the Randox Grand National-winning stable of Henry De Bromhead.

At York, Charlie Hills' Double Rush can bring up a hat-trick of victories in the Macmillan Sprint Handicap (3.35pm).

The three-year-old son of Blue Point has been in fine form in his two starts so far this season having not won in his three outings as a juvenile last season.

Double Rush returned to action on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and ran out a four-length winner over six furlongs in March.
