Man lost £150k to Bitcoin scammers soon after wife died

North Wales Police have issued advice to help avoid Bitcoin scams

North Wales Police cyber team are warning people of the dangers of investing in such schemes and urged people to research, before parting with money.

A North Wales Police Cyber Crime spokesperson said: "The team went to visit a victim of fraud who lost £150,000. The victim had been using a popular social media site and saw a link about investing in Bitcoin.

"Having recently lost his wife and wanting to create an inheritance for their children, he invested a modest sum. However, this was just the beginning. The fraudsters will pay for fake adverts online and create enticing messaging and making promises that are impossible.

"Once a victim makes contact via the advert, the communication will quickly transfer to phone calls.
