AN “idiotic” motorist drove at up to 115mph on the A55 during a police chase. He was eventually stopped, when police deployed a stinger device to bring his car to a halt.

- By DAVID POWELL Daily Post Reporter

Benjamin Williams, 25, who had taken his friend's car, admitted a string of motoring offences. A judge at Mold Crown Court yesterday jailed him for 16 months for dangerous driving.

The court heard Williams, of Foxes Close, Mancot, Flintshire, had been allowed to stay with a friend. But before she woke up he took Karrie Williams' Volvo car in March.

Police spotted it facing the wrong way in a one-way street. An officer chased it.

The pursuit went along the A55 and ended up in Colwyn Bay before Williams turned off at Old Colwyn at about 2am that night.

A stinger was used and he came to stop and was arrested. The car was damaged.

Prosecutor Karl Scholz said the car owner's insurance company declined to pay for the damage because the incident involved a person living in her house.
