'I want to be next Rooney or Lukaku'

New boy Barry 'very happy' to join Everton

THIERNO Barry wants to emulate Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku as he targets being a Premier League goal-getter for Everton.

The club confirmed the striker had signed a four-year deal on Wednesday.

The France youth international arrives from Villarreal and has forfeited the chance to play Champions League football next season to join the Blues.

Barry netted 11 La Liga goals last season to help the Yellow Submarine finish fifth in La Liga.

The 22-year-old will cost Everton around £27 million. Barry had a £34 million release clause in his contract with Villarreal.

The forward, speaking to Everton TV, said he was delighted to be making the switch to the Toffees at what is a critical spell in the club's history.

"I'm very happy," Barry told evertontv. "It's very exciting to be here. I just can't wait to start and I hope to start very quickly.
