Glamorgan wrap up promotion to Division 1

GLAMORGAN have sealed promotion to Division One of the County Championship for the first time in 21 years despite their penuitimate match away to Derbyshire ending early yesterday in a rain affected draw.

Persistent rain in Derby washed out the third and fourth days, with high winds having prevented any play on the first day, leaving Derbyshire with little or no opportunity to cut Glamorgan’s lead in second place.

With Gloucestershire also failing to get batting bonus points, only Middlesex had any theoretical chance of overhauling Glamorgan in second place behind Division Two champions Leicestershire, but the Londoners could only salvage a draw on the final day against Lancashire.
