Full details of Welsh Government's £27.5bn budget revealed

THE Welsh Government has finalised how it will spend its £27.5bn budget in the upcoming financial year.

- By RUTH MOSALSKI

Despite fervent speculation as to whether Labour would even manage to get its own budget through a Senedd vote, we now know that at the vote on January 27 Plaid will offer Labour the crucial support it needs.

Labour's 29 seats in the Senedd meant it needed help to pass the budget. Not passing it would have created huge issues but Plaid then said it would assist Labour to ensure they didn’t materialise.

The Welsh Government says the £27.5bn final budget is £1.2bn more than in 2025-26 and £400m more than at the draft budget.

Now the final details have been published, including the cost of that deal between the parties which has seen the following extra commitments made:

■£180m for health and social care;

■£112.8m for local government - resulting in an uplift of 4.5% to the local government settlement; and

■£120m of capital funding available for the next government to allocate.

In terms of a breakdown by department, health gets the most in terms of both resource and capital, followed by housing and local government and education. There was no change to rates of the Welsh rate of income tax it remains at 10p and no change to Land Transaction Tax thresholds and rates.
