Bank worker jailed for stealing over £100,000 from her employers

A BANK worker stole more than £100,000 from her employer.

Lesley Smith defrauded the Lloyds Banking Group out of the money by sending it to her own accounts.

The 44-year-old, of King Edward Drive, Flint, gave some money to charity and has repaid about £80,000, Mold Crown Court heard.

A judge jailed her yesterday for 16 months after she admitted four counts of fraud by abuse of position.

Prosecutor Joseph Lees said Smith had been a customer consultant for Lloyds Banking Group.

Her offending began when she transferred £200 into her own NatWest Bank account, and then larger amounts.

But NatWest “raised concerns” with Lloyds about the “exceptionally high” payments, given that her salary was only £1,500 a month, said Mr Lees.

The court heard payments included 11 sums totalling £11,289.59 and 65 sums totalling £82,783 into her accounts.
