RUBEN AMORIM will be sacked by Christmas if he doesn't change his approach at Manchester United, according to Rene Meulensteen.

The Portuguese tactician has failed to bring about a marked improvement at Old Trafford so far this season, despite receiving a substantial backing from the board over the summer and being afforded a full preseason tour to settle his squad.

‘The 40-year-old suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on opening day, before mustering a draw against Ful-ham and a win over anew-ly-promoted Burnley.

However, Sunday's Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium showed major holes in Amorim’s system, as Manchester City ran out 3-0 winners on home soil while United failed to get going.

And with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Brighton to play across their next five outings, Meulensteen believes that the outlook is far from positive.

Meulensteen, United’s former first-team coach, told football betting site BetVictor: “Could Ruben Amorim be gone before Christmas? Absolutely, he could well be.
