£500M RAIL INVESTMENT INCLUDES NEW STATION

A NEW North Wales train station is planned as part of a £500m rail spending announcement by the UK and Welsh governments.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to formally endorse the Transport for Wales vision for the future of Welsh rail today

He will commit the UK Government to work with the Welsh Government to deliver this pipeline as quickly as possible.

Using the almost half a billion pounds promised this Spending Review, seven new stations are set to be built across Wales.

This will include a station to service Deeside Industrial Park, as well funds towards safety, capacity and line speed improvements at Buckley.

The other stations are at Magor and Undy, Llanwern, Cardiff East, Newport West, Somerton and Cardiff Parkway.

But the Welsh Conservatives said the investment falls short of what was provided by the previous UK Conservative Government.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "For too long, Wales has been let down by a UK government unwilling to do the hard yards and build the future they deserve.
