A WIDOW whose husband died on a smart motorway five years ago is furious they are still being used as hundreds of power failures emerged.

Claire Mercer's husband Jason, 44, and Alexandru Murgeanu, 22, were hit by a lorry and killed on the M1 in 2019 as they swapped details after a collision.

She said: "It's an absolute scandal.

There's only one thing that needs to happen and it's incredibly simple and incredibly quick.
