Sports coach recalls terror fear in refugee reality show

- AMY DENMAN

We thought Al-Shabaab were after us. It was surreal...a near death feeling but total peace

A SPORTS coach taken on a high-risk trip to a refugee camp has revealed she felt "at peace" when she thought she was going to be killed by Al-Shabaab.

Jess Hallett travelled from Somalia to the UK with haulage business owner Nathan Rimmington and podcaster Mathilda Mallinson to experience a refugee's journey in Go Back to Where You Came From.

The Channel 4 show plunged six opinionated Brits with extreme views on immigration into the harsh realities of refugee life to help them understand what motivates them.

imageJess, from Llanelli, South Wales, Nathan, from Barnsley, South Yorks, and Mathilda, from London, were flanked by specialist security consultants and wore body armour as soon as they stepped off the plane.

The threat of terrorism in Somalia's capital Mogadishu is incredibly high, with Al-Shabaab and other militant groups who oppose the government carrying out attacks.
