US has key to a lasting regional peace

Surrounding and distant neighbours - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Turkey - all agree it must disarm and give up its position in Gaza. It has to go.

Local violent clashes between Hamas and rival clan members have to be resolved so that US President Donald Trump's peace plan can be implemented.

Reconstruction and governance headed by an apolitical Palestinian organisation will give the region hope for a new Gaza - but that means rebuilding at pace.
