WES Streeting started crunch talks with unions yesterday and urged NHS staff to work with the government instead of going on strike.

Inflation has swallowed up any real-term increase for 2025/26, with unions demanding urgent reforms to boost conditions to avoid walkouts.

The Health Secretary met the ambulance workers’ union GMB yesterday after the bulk of NHS staff rejected a 3.6% pay rise.
