SPECTRECLE

THE powers behind Call the Midwife made joyful appearances in front of the camera in last night's finale.

Showrunner Heidi Thomas and Pam Ferris, appearing as the late Sister Evangelina, played ghostly nuns leading Sister Monica Joan to the afterlife.

And executive producer Dame Pippa Harris was a mourner in St Oswald's church, next to Rosalind (Natalie Quarry) during the funeral.

Pam, 77, was last seen in the BBC drama in 2016 when her much-loved character died suddenly in the final episode of series five.

In last night's moving scenes she reappeared to offer guidance during her friend's final moments.

MAGNIFICENT Fans have known for several weeks that Sister Monica Joan's days at Nonnatus House were numbered, because she was diagnosed with kidney failure and Doctor Turner warned that his elderly patient had not long left.
