Rogers compared fo Gascoigne afte masterclass... and the Villa star lov

- BY JEREMY CROSS

BY JEREMY CROSS MORGAN ROGERS has done what some others would be scared to do - and welcomed comparisons with England great Paul Gascoigne.

Rogers produced a man-of-the-match performance to inspire England to a stunning five-goal thrashing of Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday night.

The Aston Villa attacking midfielder revelled in the No.10 role Thomas Tuchel handed him, producing some sublime twists and turns, clever flicks and driving runs.

His display was so reminiscent of what Gazza used to produce on the international stage, that pundit Roy Keane likened Rogers to the Three Lions legend.

And while Rogers is keen to keep his feet on the ground, he admitted such comparisons do make him feel good.

He said: “That's some compliment, especially coming from him and who he's comparing me to.

“I've seen clips of Gazza (right). He was an iconic player, and one that you watch clips of in the archives.

“I've not seen him live, I was probably too young, but I've seen clips. To hear that from legends of the game and people who watch it, is a nice feeling and a nice moment.

“I've got to keep my feet on the ground, keep levelheaded and go again, because I want to get better and improve.”

Rogers believes he has grown into the No.10 role at club level.
