Reform just adds to Lords discord

Defence Secretary John Healey dismissed Nigel Farage’s demand that he be allowed to nominate Reform peers. He said Parliament wouldn't benefit from “more Putin apologists” - a dig at the Reform boss for allegedly not condemning Russia's dictator. Farage hit out at a “democratic disparity" that sees his party have no representation. You say...

I AGREE with Defence Secretary John Healey. Farage’s views on Russia and Putin are not welcome. This is a man who in the past said the Russian president was the world leader he admired the most. Coupled with the fact Reform has said it wants to get rid of the Lords, Farage’s latest outburst makes no sense. He should concentrate on looking after his constituents in Clacton before coming out with absurd demands. Now he has gone a step further and launched Reform branded football shirts.

He only says things to be controversial and get more publicity in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. I hope most decent thinking people can see through his nonsense. He is not a serious politician.

As PM, Keir Starmer has the final say on nominations to the House of Lords. Farage has said he wants to see a reformed version of the Lords - a type of elected chamber. But the sooner we get rid of the unelected Lords, the better.
