Neville flags up a rise in hatred

I DON'T think Gary Neville deserves the criticism he has received since speaking out.

So many people are too afraid to do the same these days in case of a backlash. We should all be free to give opinions. What is happening in this country is frightening.

Neville has said what many are thinking. We should all be able to live in peace. But some people are whipping up hate in villages and towns with these flags. They think there is nothing wrong in what they are doing but it has far reaching consequences.

Certain sections of society have hijacked our flags to fit their own agendas. We need to step back and realise what is happening before the divisions in our communities get wider.

Brian Grant, Cannock, Staffs

Gary Neville is right to say the issue of flags has been weaponised by those with hate-filled agendas such as Tommy Robinson. Even worse are the Tories who should know better. Right-wing newspapers are spreading their propaganda and distorted reality.
