McCanns' 18yr wait for answers continues

Madeleine, days away from her fourth birthday, was on holiday with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leics, when she vanished in May 2007.

They left her alone in the apartment with her younger twin siblings while they dined in a restaurant.

Brueckner was living in the resort at the time and was known to break into holiday apartments. He is nearing the end of a seven-year jail term for rape in Germany and could be freed as early as September. Despite the lengthy police investigation, officers appear no closer to charging him over the disappearance.

Last October, he was cleared of a string of sex crimes he was accused of carrying out in Portugal. Prosecutors are awaiting the outcome of an appeal against those verdicts lodged in Germa-ny’s Federal Court of Justice.
