Minister says no basic rate rise expected in Budget

LABOUR stands by its election promise not to hike income tax, a minister insisted yesterday.

It came in response to claims Rachel Reeves is considering a plan to hike income tax at the Budget, which would be a major breach of the party's manifesto.

Labour promised at last year's General Election the party would “not increase taxes on working people” including income tax.
