EVEN in the wild world of rock music, few people stood out quite like Kiss founder Ace Frehley with his Spaceman persona and guitar that emitted smoke on stage.

Ace was known for cosmic costumes, face paint and gigantic platform boots, but his musicianship was just as flashy and eye-catching.

The US guitarist, who has died aged 74 after a fall, has been lauded by fellow rock stars including singer Alice Cooper.
