HOW JAY BEAT PRESSURE OF HIS PRICE TAG

JAY STANSFIELD has detailed how he turned to a psychologist to cope with being the most expensive player in League One history.

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

Birmingham City paid Fulham £15million for the striker on the final day of last summer's transfer window.

And he rewarded that faith by scoring 23 goals during a record-breaking season at St Andrew's.

Chris Davies's (below) side earned 111 points as they romped to the title, losing only three times and remaining unbeaten at home.

But that came at a price and Stansfield (top, with the League One trophy) admitted he had struggled with the pressure of his price tag.

He said: "I've got a real connection with Birmingham City's supporters because they are the only ones on my side at the moment. When I first came, there was a lot of noise and I took some stick for it.
