Anfield pays tribute to Jota as Reds try to get back to normality

ANFIELD came to a standstill twice as Diogo Jota was remembered on Liverpool's first return home since the forward’s tragic passing last month.

Back-to-back friendlies against Athletic Bilbao were both paused in the 20th minute - Jota's now retired shirt number ~ as the star's former teammates applauded and his chant echoed all around the ground.

Earlier, Reds legend Phil Thompson had joined Bilbao president Jon Uriarte in laying wreaths in front of the Kop.

Several fans also wore Jota’s name on their shirts after the Reds announced that any new shirt sold bearing ‘Diogo. J’ and the No.20 will raise funds for a grassroots football programme in honour of the Portuguese.
