A piece for peace tops Classic FM music poll

CLASSICAL music fans have voted an antiwar composition as their favourite piece of music.

The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace by Sir Karl Jenkins triumphed in the annual Classic FM Hall of Fame poll this year.

The mass by Welshman Sir Karl, 82, dethroned Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No2 after a three-year run at the top.

Sir Karl said: "To become the first living composer to reach the number one position is profoundly humbling and gratifying.
