880-MILE TRIP FOR TRURO FANS AND THERE'S NO ROOF ON THE AWAY END

They'll be hoping it stays dry in Carlisle

- BY JASON MELLOR

HOPEFULLY England's wettest county doesn't live up to its reputation today.

At the halfway point of their epic 18-hour round trip to Carlisle, the hardy band of Truro City supporters making one of the longest journeys in British football, at just under 880 miles, won't even have the basic courtesy of a roof over their heads if, as they often do at Brunton Park, the heavens open.

Truro fans are no strangers to putting in the motorway miles to cheer on their heroes.

The huge distance involved in this weekend's trip to Cumbria means it's not so much a travelling army, more a dedicated Cornwall company of around 100. Their motto could be: At Your Service (Station).

Even in the notionally 'regionalised' National League South, the Tinners clocked up thousands of miles. At one point during a four-year exile from the city, during the delayed development of their new ground, 'home' games constituted a 400-mile round trip to play in Gloucestershire.
