Union Assurance ‘Suwamaga Impact Report’ 2025 reveals insights about silent killer

Launched in 2024, Union Assurance Suwamaga is a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing the alarming rise in diabetes prevalence across Sri Lanka. The programme is anchored on four strategic pillars: raising awareness about diabetes and its tisks, promoting healthy lifestyles through education and engagement, supporting early detection and risk management, and fostering community participation.

At the heart of the initiative is the Union Assurance Suwamaga Mobile Screening Unit, a fully equipped medical truck introduced in collaboration with the Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Health. Staffed by certified healthcare professionals, the unit provides free diabetes screenings to the public, along with detailed health reports and personalised lifestyle modification advice to help reduce risk factors.

In addition to the Mobile Screening Unit, Union Assurance partnered with its strategic partners and private healthcare providers to conduct screenings at selected locations nationwide, supplying essential equipment and resources to strengthen these outreach efforts.
