June tourist arrivals surge, but monthly target faces steep climb
Daily Mirror - Sri Lanka
|June 11, 2025
Sri Lanka's tourism sector witnessed a robust start to June, with arrivals in the first five days surging by 35.92 percent year-on-year to 21,293. This marks a significant increase from the 15,666 tourists who arrived during the same period in 2024.

However, this initial momentum may not be enough to meet the ambitious target for the month, as current trends project a potential shortfall of nearly 50,000 arrivals.
While the daily arrival rate has been strong, averaging 4,259 in the first five days of June, maintaining this pace for the entire month would result in approximately 127,758 tourists. This figure falls considerably short of the official forecast of 177,257 arrivals set for June 2025, indicating a potential deficit of 49,500 tourists if the arrival rate does not accelerate.
