William's call to 'step up' for nature

THE Prince of Wales declared “we must stand alongside those who are standing up and defending nature” on the second day of his visit to Brazil.

William said environmental crime was one of the most “profitable and damaging” and called on governments, businesses and civil society to “step up and play their role”.

Addressing the United for Wildlife Global Summit in Rio de Janeiro, he also praised indigenous peoples and local communities who try to protect the Amazon rainforest.

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio made a surprise appearance at the summit, speaking via a video message.
