We wool remember them ...knitted river of poppies

A RIVER of knitted poppies cascades from a church bell tower as devoted villagers remember the fallen.

Volunteers crafted 8,000 flowers - twice the number hoped for- of which 3,104 tumble from St Peter's Church.

The 69ft long and 16ft wide memorial to British and Commonwealth soldiers during the two world wars and later conflicts is at the heart of efforts in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. But a further 4,899 knitted and crocheted poppies festoon shops and businesses around the church.

And a soldier's helmet and boots, also fashioned from wool, top a postbox in the centre of the village.
