Wary shoppers expect high grocery bills this Christmas

BRITONS are preparing for high grocery spending this Christmas as food inflation continues to dominate daily concerns, industry figures show.

People’s personal finance expectations over the next three months dropped to -11 this month — down from -7 in September — according to the British Retail Consortium.

The corresponding metric, personal spending on retail, rose nine points — driven entirely by expectations of more spending on food and drink. Spending on all other sectors is set to be negative for the 12th consecutive month.
