Verdict on Reeves as borrowing cost hits a 27-year high

CHANCELLOR Rachel Reeves was accused of “yet another economic disaster” as the pound tumbled and government borrowing costs hit a 27-year high.

The Conservatives said financial markets had issued “a clear vote of no confidence” in Sir Keir Starmer’s attempt this week to revamp his Downing Street team.

The PM announced a “second phase” with a new focus on growth, bringing into No10 Darren Jones, previously Chief Secretary to the Treasury, to take charge of delivering his agenda.

Civil servant Daniel York-Smith also moved from the Treasury to the PM’s office and Minouche Shafik was appointed Sir Keir’s economic adviser.
