Ukraine looking to Churchill in its battle with Russia

UKRAINE is summoning the spirit of Winston Churchill and the miracle of D-Day in its fight with Russia, a top aide has said.

Kyiv has the commitment of G7 nations "for as long as it takes" to win its battle against Moscow backed by a £40billion loan.

The financial support of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US sends an "unmistakable signal" to Vladimir Putin as the war rumbles into its third year.

But as Russian forces make advances around Kharkiv, the second biggest city in Ukraine, and intensified attacks along the country's Eastern Front, war weary troops are finding inspiration from Britain's wartime Prime Minister.

Kyiv aide Anton Gerashchenko, former deputy minister at the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and a trusted lieutenant of President Volodymyr Zelensky, told the Daily Express: "Although it is summer now and there's lots of light around, Russia is trying to plunge Ukraine into darkness.
