The first sycamores will be planted today, at sites including The Tree Sanctuary in Coventry, and at one commemorating the Minnie Pit mining disaster in Staffordshire.
One will also be planted at Greenham Common in Berkshire, which reopened to the public in 2000 following decades of military use.
