Gladiator was killed by lion
THE world’s first scientific proof that Roman gladiators really were killed by lions has been found in York.
Experts have identified big cat bite marks on one of 82 skeletons discovered in a gladiators’ graveyard in the city, known as Driffield Terrace.
The man was aged 26 to 35 when he died between 200AD and 300AD.
