HMRC will phase out paper letters for millions of taxpayers from April in a bid to save £50million per annum by 2028/29.

- BY LEVI WINCHESTER

The tax office plans to go “digital by default”. It means people will get correspondence through their online HMRC account, or via its app unless they choose to keep getting letters.

The tax office will continue to write to households that do not have the internet or struggle to access digital services.
