'Taxi tax' will clobber vulnerable passengers
Daily Express
|October 17, 2025
LABOUR'S “taxi tax” would hit vulnerable passengers and deal a hammer blow to the nighttime economy, the Tories have warned.
Sir Keir Starmer’s party refuses to rule out slapping 20% VAT on private hire journeys.
Shadow Transport Secretary Richard Holden said the tax would “clobber” passengers.
He added: “People who depend on private hire to get home safely after work or a night out would be priced off the road entirely.
“Labour refuses to rule this out because they’re planning it.
“They're in this position because Starmer has no backbone, a weak team around him and no plan.
