Tax threat to horseracing

THOUSANDS of jobs could be lost within a year if Treasury proposals to change online gambling taxes are introduced, research shows.
The measures could devastate the horseracing industry and rural communities with £330million in lost revenue, it is claimed.
Under the proposals, the rate of tax on online betting would be raised from 15% to 21%, bringing it up to the same level as online casino games and slots. British racing supports the employment of around 85,000 people.
