Swimmer who landed ashore quoting Bard to be deported

A MAN who claimed he was a British cross-Channel swimmer when he was rescued off Jersey carrying no formal ID is set to be deported.

The man calling himself David Henry Law quoted Shakespeare in a bid to prove his citizenship when he was helped from the water at Rozel Bay last year.

He was wearing a wetsuit, swimming cap, goggles and a belt containing €265 in cash, and claimed he was a 35-year-old British citizen who had swum 13 hours from France.

But the authorities could find no record of him and he was jailed for entering the island without leave.
