Single men to take over 'family' motel

THE Home Office has been urged to reconsider a plan to replace families living at a hotel with dozens of single male asylum seekers.

In a letter to border security and asylum minister Dame Angela Eagle, Wirral Council leader Paula Basnett said people at the ex-Holiday Inn Express had been “welcomed” by the community.

The Labour-run council’s leader said residents had “concerns over safety, community stability, and the displacement of families who have integrated successfully”.

The hotel in Hoylake, Merseyside, has seen anti-migrant protests in recent weeks.
