RUSTY Rory McIlroy survived a 'sand storm' as he rescued his Scottish Open title bid.

- By Craig Swan

The world No.2 admits the best is still to come after charging back into contention with a fabulous first-day finale in North Berwick.

McIlroy suffered bunker bother when he left his ball in the trap at the 15th hole.

However, the career Grand Slam star holed a putt from off the green to salvage a bogey - and that kickstarted a storming end to his opening round.

McIlroy birdied the last three holes to move to within four shots of leaders Sepp Straka, Nico Echavarria, Jake Knapp and Victor Perez.
