PM blasted for kowtowing to EU leaders as Macron believes 'Brexit has failed'

SIR Keir Starmer was accused of "kowtowing" to Brussels last night after he met EU leaders to plead for closer ties with Britain.

The Prime Minister – who is the first since Brexit to meet the bloc – held the talks over dinner as part of his masterplan to "reset" relations.

But the Tories warned he had his priorities wrong and should be focusing on a better relationship and trade deal with the US.

The talks were meant to be about security and defence but Sir Keir was also keen to discuss energy, trade and the economy. Speaking at the Palais d'Egmont, he set out "specific areas" where Britain and the EU could do more together on defence, including Ukraine.
