New V-levels 'offer third route' to jobs

The V-levels will include subjects such as engineering and agriculture and replace BTECs, the Education Secretary said yesterday.

Bridget Phillipson added that vocational courses had been seen as “an afterthought for too long”.

Meanwhile, T-levels — introduced in 2020 for technical subjects such as digital production and childcare — will be expanded, she added.

And there will be extra support to help pupils get the “vital passes” they need in GCSE English and maths to continue their education.

Recently the Commons education select committee claimed the policy was not working for the majority and urged the Government to change it.
