D-Day nursing heroine Jean marks 103 with cake - and her tipple
A D-DAY nursing heroine has marked reaching 103 by revealing her secret to keeping well - a daily glass, or two, of chardonnay.
Jean Grabaskey joined the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service in 1943, aged 21.
After the Normandy invasion the next year, she cared for casualties in a tented hospital near Caen.
Jean was married to late husband Hedley for 65 years, raising three daughters and later welcoming six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She celebrated turning 103 with a party for family, friends and staff at Field Lodge Care Home near St Ives, Cambs.
